    Communication is essential in every relationship. In order to give optimum care, both the patient and physician must communicate the health care issues, the options of care and then agree in the course of action.

    Dr. James McGowan has been Board Certified in Internal Medicine since 1981. He graduated from Medical School in the United Kingdom in 1975 and completed his Internal Medicine Residency program through Presbyterian/St. Luke's Hospital in Denver. Dr. McGowan has been the Medical Director for North Denver Behavioral Health Center and Denver Behavioral Health Center, since 1999. He has taught at the Internal Medicine Residency Program at St. Luke's Hospital as well been a Preceptor in Primary Care Medicine at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. Dr. McGowan has been practicing Internal Medicine in the Central Denver area since 1981 prior to joining Provident in 2007.

    Dr. McGowan is an Englishman born in New York. He spent most of his childhood in England where he received his medical degree. He enjoys playing golf and travel, especially when it includes golf. One of Dr. McGowan's "claim to fame" is that he knows of all the best places to eat in the Denver area. He is our very own Zagat Guide to Restaurant Reviews.

    Patient Care Philosophy:
    My goal is to create a partnership with my patients. It does not benefit the patients to tell them what to do; I would rather work with them to find the best solution.

    Dr. Kerry Higgins is a Family Practice Physician. He graduated from Medical College of Virginia in 1972 and completed family practice residency at University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. Dr. Higgins was a founding partner with Southeast Family Practice in 1975 until he joined Provident in July of 2006. He is also a member of the International Society of Clinical Densitometry.

    Dr. Higgins spends his free time enjoying Colorado mountain activities including skiing, snowshoeing, hiking and biking. One favorite accomplishment was riding in the "Road from Denver to Aspen Bike Ride". This road bike ride is a 200 mile journey completed all in one day. He completed this ride twice. Dr. Higgins is married and has 2 daughters. Both he and his wife are also actively involved in the Retriever Rescue of Colorado program.

    The physician's primary job is to provide recommendations regarding health. The physician also has the obligation to inform the patient of the information needed in order for the patient to be able to make an educated decision on care.

    Dr. Richard Jolly is a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine. He graduated from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1981. Dr. Jolly did his family practice residency through the Rocky Mountain Hospital in Denver and was in a solo practice beginning in 1983 prior to joining Provident as of July of 2007.

    Dr. Jolly has been married to his wife Carol for 36 years and has 2 children and one grandchild. He enjoys time with family and tending to his vegetable garden and roses.

    Patient Care Philosophy:
    You know the saying "it takes a village" well the same holds true with your health. Sometimes you need to involve others in your care, whether it is your family, your support system, other physicians and most of all you. "It takes teamwork, you and me together."

    Dr. Gipson, Jr. received his Doctorate of Medicine at the University Of Colorado School Of Medicine in 1974. He completed his residency as a flight surgeon at the US Naval Hospital in Pensacola, Florida from 1975-1978 (a flight surgeon is both a physician and an aviator). After returning to Colorado in 1978, he joined in a Family Medicine Practice with his father. After his father's retirement in 1992, Dr. Gipson, Jr. established a solo practice until he joined Provident in 2008.

    Dr. Gipson, Jr. is married with 2 children and 3 grandchildren. His free time is spent with family, including both of his parents. He is very proud of his heritage in that his father was the first African American Board Certified General Surgeon of Denver and has the Eastside Health Center named in his honor.

    It is essential that patients are given information in order to know the choices available for their optimal health. My responsibility is to educate, communicate and facilitate for the best possible outcome for my patients.

    Dr. Blanchard has over 30 years in Occupational, Emergency and Family Medicine. He graduated from medical school in Omaha, Nebraska at Creighton University Medical School in 1971. He completed his internship at Saint Lukes Hospital in Cedar Rapids, IA and was in Family Practice and Emergency Medicine until he moved his family to Colorado in 1981. Dr. Blanchard worked as a Family Practice and Occupational Medicine physician in the North Denver area since 1981 until he joined Provident in June 2008. In 1996 he was appointed as an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at University of Colorado Health Services.

    Dr. Blanchard is married with children and grandchildren. Both he and his wife have a passion for travel and enjoy spending free time in the outdoors skiing, hiking and camping. When traveling or not, they also share the love of a good book. Dr. Blanchard does not limit himself to one particular type of literature; however Science Fiction tends to be most favored.

    Dr. Koftan has been a board certified Internal Medicine physician since 1984. He graduated from the University Of Kansas School Of Medicine. He serves his country as a Commissioned Officer with the Indian Health Service in Oklahoma. He has practiced Internal Medicine in Denver since 1994. He recently spent the last 3 years in Los Angeles, California learning hormone replacement, hyperthyroidism, weight disorder and fatigue management medicine.

    Dr. Koftan and his wife enjoy a healthy lifestyle, exercise, biking, skiing and all the cultural and entertainment opportunities that Denver and Colorado have to offer.

    Michael is a Certified Physician Assistant and a member of the National Commission of Certified Physician Assistants and the American Association of Physician Assistants. He received his Masters in Medical Science from St Francis University in Loretto, Pennsylvania in 2002. That same year he also completed the Physician Assistant Program at Red Rocks Community College. He has been with Provident since January 2006.

    Michael has been married to his high school sweetheart for over 30 years and has 2 children. He is a former bronco busting rodeo rider and continues to actively participate at the National Western Rodeo. He enjoys football, golf, raising Koi fish, scuba diving, painting and playing the guitar and banjo.

    Karla received her undergraduate degree at Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas and went on to complete Masters Degree in Medical Science at St Francis University in Pennsylvania in 2007. She also received her Certificate in Physician Assistant Studies at Red Rocks Community College in Colorado in the same year. Karla is a Certified Physician Assistant and a member of the National Commission of Certified Physician Assistants and the Colorado Chapter of the American Association of Physician Assistants. After graduation Karla worked for an internal medicine practice and later joined Provident in July 2009.

    Karla and her husband enjoy the adventures of travel and take many mini vacations throughout the year. Music is also a passion however you won't be able to hold her to any one genre; she listens to everything from classic to country. Other hobbies include scrapbooking, baking and cake decorating.

    Ashley is a Certified Physician Assistant and a member of the National Commission of Certified Physician Assistants and the Colorado Chapter of the American Association of Physician Assistants. She received her undergraduate degree at Mesa State College and went on to complete Masters Degree in Medical Science in Physician Assistant Studies at Midwestern University in Arizona in 2008. Ashley worked for a private practice from 2008 until she joined Provident in April 2010.

    Ashley is newly married and has a dog named Laila. She enjoys baking and shares her goodies with the staff at the clinic and nursing facilities. She enjoys hiking and the outdoors and has taken on another adventure by learning the sport of golf, instructed by her husband.
